Jesse CO#1

Date: May 27

Topic/Skill: to be verbs

Teacher: Felicia

Teacher Presentation: Felicia was enthusiastic, patient throughout the class, and spoke very clearly. She went over the agenda, but was flexible enough to make some adjustments when she found out a student was going to be late to class. She explained each activity verbally and handed out written instructions. She also used plenty of examples to reinforce the grammar topics.

Classroom Management: There were only four students in the class, but the instructor was intentional in how she interacted with them. She ensured they each had sufficient opportunity to answer questions and ask questions. She also changed how they were paired up for each activity so they could practice communicating with a different student each time.

Materials: White board, markers, small white boards, worksheets for verb practice

Student Participation: The students participated throughout the entire class because the instructor constantly asked them simple questions or had them working in pairs. The student also wrote sentences on a small white board during one activity. The white board made it easy to correct mistakes quickly and share the sentences with the class.

Feedback Provided: The instructor gently correct the major errors, but only often enough to maintain the students' enthusiasm. When she identified an error, she would ask the class to correct the error, and then give examples.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: Repetition is really important in foundations level classes. The instructor had the students repeat the same grammar points in different ways and in different activities throughout the entire class to reinforce the concepts.
