Topic discussed: My conversation partner and I discussed our goals for the conversation partner sessions, as well as our reasoning for enrolling in the CIES/TEFL programs. I also learned all about my conversation partner's family members, both here in the U.S. and in Mexico.
Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: We discussed our individual learning styles, the challenges of learning a second language, and the rewards. We talked about how common it is to face periods of time where the learning rate seems to slow (the plateau). We discussed the importance of celebrating the small gains, like successfully ordering a coffee, which increases motivation.
