Nastasia CP #1

Date/Time: May 4th, 11:00am

Location: Starbucks

Topic discussed: Korean and American schools

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: I learned that in the Korean school system students only have 3 years of high school. In their high schools they must wear uniforms and they typically stay in school until 10pm or sometimes even 12am. Students then move onto either a specialized college which may be for 2 years, or to a 4-year university. My partner learned that Americans go to high school for 4 years and that many high school students do not wear uniforms. I explained that mainly private high schools require uniforms. I explained that students go to school normally between 7-3 or 9-4 and that they participate in clubs or sports afterwards. My partner was also surprised to learn that Americans use the terms “college” and “university” interchangeably.
