Jordan TS #13

Date/Time: June 9 4:00

Location:  Library
Topic/Skill: Reading
Feedback provided to tutee:  I told David to try to be a little more open-minded when it came to reading and advised that he tried to think about his interest when choosing what he wants to read.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Throughout all of our sessions together trying to get David to actually sit down and focus on something to read for more than a few minutes has been a near impossible task. So for this lesson I was hoping to spark his interest in reading by having the two of us sit down and take turns reading a few paragraphs of a book, while pausing at times to discuss the narrative. This wasn’t nearly as simply as I thought it would be since David grew bored with most of the books I picked out so quickly and the books he wanted to read weren’t available in the library. We eventually settled on reading “The Hunger Games” and I would assist David with words that he had troubles with during our reading. Then for the final 10 minutes of the lesson we talked about the world that was being set up in what we read thus far and I had him use actual examples from the book to ensure he wasn’t just pulling memories from the movie.
