Topic discussed: Korean and American drinking traditions

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: I learned that in Korea it is normal to go for several “rounds” of drinks. I learned that people will go out with coworkers or friends and hop from bar to bar. I learned that there are many games and traditions associated with drinking. For instance, when one opens a bottle of soju they must first swirl it, tap it with their elbow, poke it between their fingers, and then open it. I learned that a younger person should always accept a drink with two hands and that they should face away from an elder when they drink. My partner learned that America also has many games associated with drinking like flip cup or beer pong. He also learned that it depends on where a person works and what kind of coworkers they have that decides whether they will go drinking together. My partner learned that our “rounds” might consist of pre-gaming and after parties.
