Nastasia CP #6

Date/Time: May 30th, 11:00am

Location: Pitaria (Greek restaurant)

Topic discussed: Korean and American food

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: I learned that most Korean meals will include rice, soup, and many side dishes (banchan). I learned that “chimaek” is a fun meal to have with family or friends. It is chicken and beer. My partner said that there are more than 50 kinds of chicken flavors and styles, and that Korean chicken is very different from American chicken, it is less oily and less salty. My partner explained that spicy food is believed to be healthy for you. I also learned about Korean bar-b-que restaurants and pojangmacha (tent restaurants). My partner learned about American food trucks at festivals and events. He also learned that corn dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers, and corn on the cob are staples at American holidays like the 4th of July or Memorial Day bar-b-ques. He learned that most Americans understand that “American” food like hamburgers are unhealthy and that there are many health campaigns to make America more aware and health-conscious.
