Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: My conversation partner has young children who are still getting accustomed to grade school here in the U.S. I assumed the adjustment to the American schooling system would be challenging but she explained that there are many similarities. The schools that her children went to in Dubai used student-centered, interaction-based approaches similar to their schools here in Florida. My conversation partner emphasized the importance of quality education in Dubai and the increasing emphasis on college-readiness. I learned that many families send their children to private schools where English learning is prioritized.
