Nastasia TS #6

Date/Time: June 7th 10:00am

Location: Skype

Topic/Skill: Listening, American comedy

Feedback provided to tutee: The speed of speech in the video was quite fast, but DoJun was able to watch the video several times and understand the majority of it. We discussed the importance of figuring out main ideas, while understanding individual words and jokes are not very important. I told him it was good that he watched the video several times through in order to first get a general idea, and then listen for more specific parts later. We also discussed how interesting similarities and differences exist in the comedy of different cultures.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that it is important to tell students that watching a video for listening several times over is welcome and encouraged especially depending on the type of activity used with the listening. I learned that my tutee was unfamiliar with improv and standup comedy.
