Breanna TS #14

Date/Time: 6/3/16 12:40 PM

Location: Books-A-Million

Topic/Skill: Pronunciation/enunciation

Feedback provided to tutee: Today was Ki and I’s last tutoring session. It was great to see a lot of the things we have worked on over our time together improve. He still has a long way to go, but I did not have to correct him as much as I did in the beginning of our time together. He still struggles with pronouncing certain l, r, and v words, but it is mostly when he is talking quietly and not opening his mouth all the way. So we talked about ways he could improve his enunciation. I suggested to him to speak up, to open his mouth more, to enunciate the first and last letters of each word, and to slow down his speech.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: After reflecting on my overall time tutoring Ki, I learned to not be afraid to correct my students, especially if they are advanced, because ultimately that is the only way they are going to learn. I also learned how to gain respect from my older students. Ki was a good student, but sometimes he would not pay attention to me and he would not fix things that I would correct him on time and time again. I have gained more respect for myself as a teacher from tutoring Ki.
