Topic discussed: When I had met Amal at the Rez she had mentioned how she wanted to practice driving and I offered to help. I went to pick her up and ran into Maddie and she decided to come along as well.
It was Amal’s second time behind the wheel so I took her to an empty parking lot where she could practice all the tings that would be on her drivers test. She was asking me when my first time behind the wheel was and I told her how my dad always used to put me on his lap and steer when we were on back roads or empty parking lots when I was very young and that my first time behind the wheel without being on his lap was when I was about 13 or 14 years old. She was shocked by this because in her country a woman would get arrested for driving, while here driving before you have a license is a common way of innocent practice.

Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: To me it is crazy that women, like Amal, are unable to drive. While to me it is crazy, to her it is the way of life and the rules she grew up on.
