Breanna CP #3

Date/Time: 5/26/16, 1:00pm

Location: CIES – Mrs. Candace’s level 4 speaking class

Topic discussed: Family structure

Cultural Topics you and your partner learned: I worked with Azeez (I do not know if this is how you spell his name). He is a student from Saudi Arabia. The questions he asked me varied from what kind of respect my family gave each other when I was a teenager, to how my family acted when I started gaining independence, to who was home to take care of me when I was growing up. He answered all of these questions as well. He told me that he was the oldest son in his family, and as such he was expected to complete a random assortment of duties. He never had a list of chores to complete, but whenever a random errand needed to be done, or someone needed help, he would have to do it. He would have to step in and take care of the family or the family’s friends if need be. He is one of nine children, and his family is very close. They gather together every summer to spend time as a family. It is difficult for them to get everyone together since they have such a big family, but they make it a priority each summer. He was very curious about my life as an American teenage girl, and it was very interesting to see how our two family dynamics differed amongst cultures.
