Breanna TS #1

Date/Time: 5/9/16 4:00 PM

Location: Books-A-Million

Topic/Skill: Needs Analysis

Feedback provided to tutee: Not much feedback was given to Ki since today was our first time meeting. I wanted to take this opportunity to have Ki tell me what he wanted from me as a tutor. I asked Ki all the questions from the needs assessment questionnaire, both the non-academic and academic questions. He told me his tutors in this past would not correct his speech, they would often let mistakes slip by, or they would let him talk and not understand what he says without asking him to repeat himself.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: During this first lesson with Ki, I wanted to take the time to get to know him and figure out exactly how he wanted to be corrected with his pronunciation. He had told me previously via email that he his biggest concern was fixing his pronunciation errors. He felt confident in his abilities to write, speak, read, under grammar, etc. I realized I needed to figure out a way to correct his pronunciation errors while he is speaking without being rude. Therefore, learning how to point out the mistakes quick enough so he has time to notice them, but not so quick that I seem rude.
