Emily CO #1

Emily CO #1 5-3-16

I observed a CIES advanced level grammar class. At the beginning of the class the teacher projected the class agenda into the screen at the front of the class. This is something I plan on doing as well in all of my classes to give students an idea of what they will be doing that day. In the class the students worked in pairs to check and find grammar errors in each other’s summaries of a video clip they watched in class the day before. This approach of peer editing will only really works in advanced level classes where students are able to catch their peers and their own mistakes. In the class they focused on verb tenses and telling the story in the past. I really liked how the teacher stressed the fact that we all make mistakes and I could tell that he went out of his way to make the students feel comfortable. Really great class!
