Jordan TS #1

Date/Time: May 4, 2016 3:30
Location: Library
Topic/Skill: Timed writing evaluation

Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected the simple grammatical errors made and gave him slight nudges to help David better support his reasoning in his writing.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Being our first session I was mostly concerned with just seeing what level David was at with his English ability. In the beginning of our session we spent a good amount of time getting to know each other, noting David’s interest for future sessions and recognizing errors in his speech. After I felt we were acquainted enough I asked David to write about his favorite Star Wars character, as he had a drawn a picture of Boba Fett on the first page of his notebook. In his writing, I noticed that he would often just provide general statements without really providing the details of what his statements meant. For example, he wrote that his favorite character was general commander but he didn’t provide what that really meant. I tried to help him in this area by going back at the end and reading through it with him asking him about things I felt needed more explanation.
