Jordan TS #8

Date/Time: May 25 4:00
Location: Library
Topic/Skill:  Poetry
Feedback provided to tutee: I helped David try to understand the meaning of the poem and encouraged him to not allow the new writing style to frustrate him.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: For this lesson I decided we had a focus on making decisions and choice. To start the lesson I promised that I would have a reward for David if he did well in the day’s lesson. I then talked with David about his plans for the future and what he wanted to do for the summer, in the fall semester since he just finished elementary school and what he wants to do after high school. After we finished the talk we read the poem the road less traveled together and had a short discussion on what he thought the meaning of the poem was. During this talk, I tried to focus his attention on a couple of lines that were more obviously about decision making than other. After we talked about it I had David go through the poem again and provided him with a set of comprehension questions to answer. Once completed since he answered a majority of the questions correctly I posed him with the choice of deciding between two rewards.
