Topic/Skill: Listening/slang and note taking
Teacher Presentation: Ramin Yazdanpanah
Teacher Presentation: The class was laid out extremely well.
First, the instructor reviewed the lecture they had listened to in the previous
class, which was going to be relevant in this class, then he passed back an
assignment and he went over how he graded it. This error correction tied into
how he taught the note-taking portion of the class. It all flowed together
extremely well. This class seemed to be more of a teacher-centered class, but
it almost had to be because he was teaching them the skill of note taking and outlining.
Classroom Management: There were two students who were refusing to takes their own notes, they were just taking pictures of the notes the instructor took on the board. The instructor eventually saw what they were doing and told them they could take pictures of his notes, but they had to take their own notes as well. The students told me that taking their own notes was too complicated, but the instructor responded with saying that that is why they are practicing the skill in class, so they can be prepared for when they may have to take notes on other materials.
Materials: White board, markers, ELMO machine to display the work of the student who did exceptional on their assignment, slang listening material.

Student Participation: The students participated by taking thorough notes on how to take notes as well as on the slang listening material.
Feedback Provided: The instructor provided feedback on the students’ previous assignments. He gave their assignments back before diving into the explanation of how to take notes, and he ask a couple students’ permission to show their assignments to the class on the screen. He went through their work, showed why their work was good, and how other students can correct their work to be more like those specific pieces of work.
Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I realized how difficult it can be to teach a listening class, especially when you are trying to do comprehension checks. Your students may be advance level listening students, but they may be level three writing, reading, or speaking students. You have to be able to work with their abilities, especially if you are doing a lesson like teaching students how to outline from a lecture.
