Cultural Topics you and your partner learned: Pham and I went to eat at her favorite American fast food restaurant, Zaxby’s. Our conversation led to discussing the various differences in restaurants between Vietnam and the U.S. She told me the only restaurants from the U.S. they have in Vietnam are McDonalds and Starbucks, and only rich people can afford to eat there. We also discussed how I don’t eat meat except for fish, then she brought up how many people in Vietnam eat dog. She told me that she does not eat dog personally, but she knows many people who do. She said that most people do not have pets, especially dogs. They may have birds but that’s about it. She thought it was crazy that I did not eat meat, and we discussed how I was able to build my diet around not consuming that type of food. She told me about her small rural town, and it was neat because we both had that in common. She told me she went to a big city for college, and then she came to Tallahassee, a middle size city, to study English. She told me that the U.S., specifically Tallahassee, is nothing like Vietnam, but she is learning to adjust.
