Topic/Skill: Sarcasm and more intonation and idioms
Feedback provided to tutee: As I've said before, Inhwa is pretty good at picking up intonation, but this time I spoke a lot more quickly and she struggled. I make sure to start out with the intonation exercises in or to help her pick out the words stressed in a sentence. This came in handy when we did an exercise that had her pick out the sarcastic sentences used upon a given scenario. That was fun to do haha. We also went over the second half of the idioms on a worksheet I gave her.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Again, Inhwa loved the work sheet I printed out of multiple English idioms (such as "take it with a grain of salt", "I'm in the doghouse now", "play it by ear"). The sheet helped explain what each phrase meant and provided examples. She also liked the sarcasm exercise. We had a good time with that and she found it really amusing. Modeling really helps her understand how the idioms, intonation, and sarcasm are used. Next time, she expressed that she wants to do some reading exercises, so we will be getting to that next!
