David
Topic/Skill: Writing and Spelling
Feedback provided to tutee: So, as I've said before, David and handwriting are not friends. They're probably not even acquaintances...anywhooo, we focused again on writing and vocab, but also I noticed that his spelling was not quite up to par. He would mis-spell easy words, so we shifted gears and focused on techniques that would help him figure out some patterns for words that have a 'c' that sounds like and 's', and so on.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: David likes to write, actually. We played games to improve his writing speed, where I would give him an allotted amount of time to write a sentence for a vocab word. I would then grade the sentence on a scale of 10 for neatness, spelling, appropriate use of the word, and would subtract from the overall score if he went over the time limit. If he managed to pull off an 8 out of 10 average (which he did) he would get a prize. Which, by request, was a baby bottle pop.
