On Tuesday May 3rd 2016, I observed my second
class room for students learning English as a foreign language. Unlike the
beginner class I first observed, this one was much more advanced in terms of
the activities and course materials for students. For instance, the students in
the advanced class were tasked with reading a whole article from
greatschools.org about co-ed schools and its various advantages and
disadvantages. After completing the article, the instructor assigned students
in the advanced course into different groups where the students discussed among
themselves the advantages and disadvantages of co-ed schools. The article and group discussion is a lot more
advanced when compared to the repetition activity and worksheet material given
to the students in the beginner class. After in group discussions, the
instructor asked the advanced students to share their personal point of view on
co-ed schools in an open dialogue that showcased the student’s understanding of
dialogue in the English language.
