Trevin Blount TS 5

Date/Time: May 8th 12-1PM

Location: Professor Kim's house

Topic/Skill: Word problems about units of measurement

Feedback provided to the tutee: The student needed to learn not to guess at answers by multiplying whatever numbers he could find in the problem since we are working with units of measurement, and while knitting an 18 meter long scarf is amusing, we also need to figure out how many centimeters it is to review our metric units.

Lessons about tutoring and/or the tutee learned: focusing on math is difficult after an evening of playing video games and ping pong (not specific to this student, in general). Working with just words does not tend to work with this student, I will need to teach him how to sketch out problems by himself to help with word problems. Additionally breaking down how to go about solving word problems step by step will help I hope.
