Kristen H. TS #3

Date/Time: 5/9 5:00pm

Tutee: David Hong

Location: Public Library

Topic/Skill: Reading Aloud; Kids Magazine

Feedback provided to tutee: Since David struggled reading aloud, and also doesn't have much interest in reading in general, I first started us out with a mad lib, which he filled out and then read aloud, much to his delight, since most of the answers he put were silly (which I'd expected). After the mad lib, though, I had us read an article from a kids magazine, but I forget the name of the magazine. The article, however, was on Star Wars and whether or not the technology found in the movies could ever exist on earth. I picked this article, because I know David likes the Star Wars movies, and if I was going to have him read, I wanted him to read something that might be interesting to him.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that David, generally, knows how to pronounce his words well and speak them out loud with proficiency. However, there is no rhythm to his reading, and he neglects to pause at periods and commas. Also, he struggles with paying attention to what he reads, because when I had him answer questions about the article, he had to go back and search for the answers a while before knowing what to write.
