Jessica L. TS# 3

Date/Time: 5/12/16, 12pm

Location: CIES classroom

Topic/Skill: Introduction/ Needs Assessment

Feedback provided to tutee: This was the first session with my adult tutee Abeer, and I found out she is studying to be a teacher and to further her qualifications by getting a PhD and improving her TOEFL scores.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I started the session by getting to know Abeer and sharing information about myself. We discussed where we were from and what we both have studied. She majored in information management and is from Saudi Arabia, and she was excited to learn that I am studying Arabic and she asked to see my writing and hear me speak. I shared, but I reminded her the sessions were for me to help her, so she mentioned she needs to work on listening, speaking, the reading. For a easy and brief listening exercise, I asked her questions about our conversation and saw if she could answer them and remember details from it. Next session I plan to go through more complex listening exercises with her.
