Date/Time: 4/28/16 1:00pm

Topic/Skill: Speaking- Speech/presentation strategies

Teacher Presentation: The teacher put the students into groups to review points made the day before. He then had a class discussion on the various points of "what makes a good speech". The teacher played a video of a girl presenting and the students had to take notes on which presentation strategies were used. There was another class discussion about the sample video. The instructor then introduced a presentation project.

Classroom Management: The teacher walked around the classroom to each group to talk to them and ensure that they were focused on the topic.

Materials: Textbook, pencils, paper, projector

Student Participation: Students worked in groups and discussed items in the textbook, the students also participated in the class discussion. Students watched and took notes on the video, they then discussed with groups and the teacher about which strategies were used.

Feedback Provided: The instructor walked around to the groups and asked their opinions. He commented on their opinions and gave suggestions on how to create and present a good speech.

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I learned that having students work in groups allows them to speak their ideas comfortably and it is important, as a teacher, to listen and comment on students opinions. I also learned that it is important to be mindful of the level of words you use. I learned it is important to correct students only on appropriate level mistakes and to be mindful of their emotions. This ensures that they are learning and comprehending, but they are not discouraged, overwhelmed, or embarrassed.
