Trevin Blount TS 7

Date/ Time: May 14th 11-12PM

Location: Professor Kim's house

Topic/skill: English length, volume and weight units. Perimeter and area

Feedback provided to the tutee: His benchmark should be knowing his unit conversions well enough to be able to reproduce his unit chart for the math final, luckily he is good enough at multiplication and other mathematical operations to be in good shape for the test after memorizing unit conversions.

Lessons learned about tutoring/the tutee: I tried a different tactic and brought in a ruler and a tape measure to make inches and feet concrete to the student, this went very well and he and I were measuring and converting and figuring out the perimeter and area for different objects in his room. This confirmed my suspicions that making these ideas concrete would make them more understandable and memorable. I had understood that children think very concretely, but now I have a better idea what that means.
