Jessica L. TS #1

Date/Time: 5/4/16, 6:30pm

Location: Skype - Korea

Topic/Skill: Introduction/ Needs Assessment

Feedback provided to tutee: This was the first session with 4th grader Jun, and we spent most of the time getting to know each other in order to create a more comfortable atmosphere for the interaction.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Jun studied in Tallahassee for 5 years, and he seems to do very well in his English class. At first, he kept saying "I don't know" to most of my questions, but eventually he became more comfortable. His speaking and listening is very well, and he mentioned that the books he reads are very easy. I had him read some of his book out loud to me, and he reads very fast, but I may have him work on his enunciation of words to understand it more clearly. His mother said the sessions will last around 30-40 minutes since Jun loses focus pretty quickly, so once the time was up Jun was quick to say bye since he wanted to watch TV. Next time I know that I must utilize the limited time we have more. I also was unable to assess his grammar and writing, so I plan on emailing his mother to discuss more of what he needs to work on.
