Topics Discussed: as usual I helped Faisal a bit with his homework, we talked about types of music and school.
Cultural Topics that you and your partner learned: Faisal had a homework assignment about music and vocabulary associated with it, so we started talking about different moods and genres of music. We eventually started talking about typical American music, so I played the national anthem and JP Sousa's Stars and Stripes forever on my phone. When I started to get to technical with my vocabulary I got my guitar from the car and started demonstrating what melody, harmony and rhythm are. I also played part of the melody of Manha De Carnaval to show what melody is. Faisal also showed me a video of a famous Arabian musician, and I was surprised to see the similarity between the style of playing, scales and rhythms of traditional Arabian music and Flamenco.
