Topic/Skill: We learned about common and proper nouns. This seemed like a good lesson since the session prior we had just gone over singular vs plural. We watched a video about the differences and then talked about them afterwards. We did some computer games and worksheets that worked on common vs proper and at the end played a game. The game was a boardgames and if you landed on certain spots you had to take a card. On each of the cards was a noun, either common or proper. Andy had to tell me whether it was a common or proper noun. Before starting the game I told Andy if he got every one right I had a surprise for him, to give him some motivation to actually do well. We played and he got everyone right and so I have game him a book about space. He loved the game so much that we played again before he had to go.
Feedback provided to the tutee: While Andy was struggling at first with the worksheets, at the end of the lesson he did an amazing job and was able to get every question right.
Lessons I learned: When giving a child something to look forward to, they are willing to try harder and actually want to succeed.
