Tutee: Inhwa

Location: CIES Lounge

Topic: Assessment of Needs

Feedback given by tutee: Inhwa has, overall, very good comprehension and response time, but he biggest need is pronunciation and intonation. She stressed that this was what she wanted to work most on, and so I had her speak about her self for a while, and we conversed a lot to begin building a relationship and in order to learn about each other. While we spoke, I sometimes noted certain sounds she had trouble pronouncing and what words were difficult for her.

Lessons learned: I began to realize what sort of exercises I would need to focus on with her; like, I'm thinking that next time we read things out loud together, in order to build her pronunciation. I'll be providing very current material, however, from blogs and such, so that she can see how Americans are using casual slang and other phrases apart from their original meaning. I taught her what it meant when people said, "we'll play it by ear", which I thought was cute :) haha
