Feedback provided to tutee: Zainab is really advanced in English and told me last session that she mostly wanted to work on her grammar or "speaking better." So I suggested teaching her new vocabulary that are more advanced or as I said "five dollar words" and she liked the idea. So, for this session, I thought what better way to improve her speaking/reading/vocabulary than to read books? I have a library of books on my laptop and we chose one to read together. Instead of making her just read aloud to me, we took turns each paragraph. She would ask me words she didn't understand and I would always check her comprehension of the story. It was great! We read two chapters and will continue next session.
Lessons learned: With Zainab I especially learned to be more confident when thinking about the teacher-student role. We are becoming really good friends and I enjoyed the reading session today.
